The IDEA Network’s statement on the Global Day for Justice for Assassinated Honduran Activist Berta Caceres

Berta Caceres - Vos tenés la balaThe Initiative for Democratic Education in the Americas (IDEA) supports the world-wide demand for Justice for Berta Caceres, three months after her assassination in la Esperanza, Honduras.  We join  #AcciónGlobal15 de Junio, because we know that what unites our distinct struggles for justice in the Americas is outrage at this crime and the commitment to build a better world.

We demand that the government of Honduras ceases the harassment and political persecution of social activists and that an independent investigation into Berta’s murder be carried out by the Inter-American Human Rights Commission.  Berta was killed for her defense of land and water from extractivist projects. We urge the immediate cancellation of the concession to the DESA Corporation to build the Agua Zarco dam on the Rio Blanco in the Lenca territories in Honduras.

We express our solidarity with the Honduran people. The Voice and words of  Berta Cáceres remain alive.

Justice for Berta is Justice for the Planet!
